Falling Down is a 1993 crime-drama film directed by Joel Schumacher. The film stars Michael Douglas in the lead role of William Foster (credited as "D-Fens"), a divorcee and unemployed former defense engineer. The film centers on Foster as he goes on a violent rampage across the city of Los Angeles, trying to get to his ex-wife's house—where he is not welcome—in time for his daughter's birthday party. Along the way, a series of encounters, both trivial and provocative, cause him to react with violence and make sardonic observations on life, poverty, the economy, and commercialism. Martin Prendergast (Robert Duvall), an aging LAPD Sergeant on the day of his retirement, faces his own frustrations with socially accepted spinelessness, even as he tracks down Foster.

The title of the film, referring to Foster's mental collapse, is taken from the title of the nursery rhyme London Bridge is Falling Down, which appears several times during the film.

Premier League bosses criticise 2022 Cup switch plan


Wenger says a switch to winter would be too problematic
Premier League managers have come out against the idea of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar being played in January.
Sepp Blatter, head of world football's governing body Fifa, has backed a switch, conceding that summer temperatures in Qatar are too high.
But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger warned: "It would create problems between clubs and countries and countries and Fifa.
"It would mean completely reorganising the whole world's fixtures, and I cannot see that happening."
The Frenchman continued with a hint of sarcasm: "As you know, we have a Christmas period which is quite busy here, and England would be very happy to play the World Cup in January just after that.
"It looks like an idea that has come out of nowhere because nobody was told that when the bid was voted for."
Fulham manager Mark Hughes said the Premier League would still be playing matches in July if a switch to winter in 2022 happened.

He said: "That's the only way round it from my interpretation. It's going to be a huge change that year and how it impacts we won't know until it actually happens."
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp's sarcastic response was that the idea was "another clever move from Mr Blatter".
Former England manager Graham Taylor, speaking to Eddie Mair on Radio 4's PM programme, said he found the idea of the switch "amazing".
He added: "If people weren't aware of that prior to the vote then I don't really know what is happening.

"He's now saying it's going to be too hot in the summer. I mean everyone's been aware of that for goodness knows how long. So I really am at a loss for him coming in now and saying there's a possibility of it being played in the winter."
Taylor said he expected the tournament to go ahead but felt it would cause problems in the Premier League.
"If the Premier League hasn't changed, if we haven't bought into some form of winter break, of course there's a problem, there's no doubt about that," he said.
"Club football dominates in our country and they won't take kindly to something like a four-week - or even more - winter break."
Qatar won the right to host the 2022 World Cup last month, becoming the first Middle Eastern country to be chosen to stage football's most prestigious tournament.
However, concerns were raised almost immediately about playing it at the height of summer, when temperatures in Qatar can exceed 40C.
Fifa president Blatter said on Friday: "Although we have the basic conditions of their bid for a June and July World Cup, the Fifa executive committee is entitled to change anything that was in the bid.
"When you play football you have to protect the main people - the players."

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal through in Qatar Open

World number two Roger Federer produced a stunning trick shot as he advanced to round two of the Qatar Open with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 win over Thomas Schoorel.
Federer had to save three set points when trailing the 21-year-old Dutch qualifier 5-4 in the opening set.
Having won the set and with a 5-2 lead in the second, Federer was facing the baseline when he flicked a shot through his legs for a winner into the corner.
World number one and top seed Rafael Nadal coasted past Karol Beck 6-3 6-0.
Nadal, seeking his first win in Doha, led 3-0 in the first set then broke Beck all three times in the next but insisted: "It was not an easy match. But I started well and kept playing well. I think I gave a good performance."
The 24-year-old Spaniard, who won three Grand Slams in 2010, added: "I try to do better every day and be consistent."
Meanwhile Federer, winner of this tournament in 2005 and 2006, reeled off five points in a row to level the score at 5-5 and then took advantage of three long returns by Schoorel to take the set on a tie-break.

The 29-year-old, winner of 16 Grand Slam titles, broke serve for the first time in the match in the fourth game of the second set before thrilling the crowd with his trademark trick shot and swiftly completing victory.
Federer has previously unveiled the shot between the legs, also known as a "Tweener", at the last two US Opens, at last year's Shanghai Masters and at the 2007 Dubai Open.
"It's one of the best shots again of my career, one I'm going to look back and smile, of course," he said of the latest example.
"In the first set, he played really well. This player has quality. I got confidence when I saved those set points. Then I picked up my game."
Next up for the Swiss maestro is compatriot Marco Chiudinelli, who beat Reda El Amrani 3-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.
In other matches, fifth seed Ernests Gulbis of Latvia beat Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-3 7-6 (7-6) and eighth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-2 6-4.
